Our Story

Fabio moved to Australia from Brazil 28 years ago, establishing several gyms in Sydney, Gold Coast, and Hobart. After years of hard work, he chose to sell his businesses and settle down in the stunning Hobart. Upon returning to Hobart, Fabio began training with his good friend Gerry Young, Head Coach at HMAA, a reputable gym in Hobart. Driven by his passion for fitness and creating community, Fabio decided to establish Fusion BJJ Academy, in collaboration with the team at HMAA and TJJ. Together, they bring over 40 years of combined experience on the mats, and are committed to delivering exceptional training. Fabio Glazer

HEAD COACH & DIRECTOR

Fabio's journey in martial arts began in his teenage years with Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art. However, it wasn't until he was 28 that he re-engaged with martial arts through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), which ignited his passion. He has been hooked since!

He has dedicated himself to training and developing his practice since then, earning his black belt in 2008 under Professor Paulo Guimaraes. Fabio transformed his passion into a profession after opening several gyms in, the Gold Coast, Sydney, and Hobart.

Teaching since 2005 and competing since 2000, he has garnered numerous titles and, more importantly, has helped hundreds of adults and children discover the transformative and life-changing benefits of BJJ.

Gerry Young

COACH

2ND DEGREE BLACK BELT

Gerry began his martial arts training in Hapkido and started to incorporate BJJ in his training in 2002 with Adam Newton. Gerry has instructed at several gyms, including Tigers Eye Muay Thai and BJJ Hobart. Gerry also studied and instructed at Hybrid Training Centre, a Mixed Martial Arts gym. Gerry is the owner and Head Coach of Derwent Valley Martial Arts in New Norfolk. He was awarded his black belt in BJJ by Adam Newton and Thiago Stefanutti in October 2016, making Gerry one of the first in the state to reach this rank.

In addition to martial arts, Gerry has a passion for functional strength and fitness training. As such, he has a long history of kettle bell and barbell training as well as developing goal specific fitness programs.

Gerry has extensive experience coaching all aspects of BJJ, submission wrestling and MMA, and has coached dozens of successful BJJ competitors and MMA fighters. He is also an experienced MMA referee and judge.

Outside of the gym, Gerry is a massage therapist and Ortho-Bionomist working with clients of all ages on a variety of soft tissue and joint issues. As a therapist, Gerry is very aware of the effect of the nervous system on our day to day life and so, is passionate about creating a safe space for everyone, both on and off the mat.
